The Telaga Waja River in East Bali is a favourite ‘class II and III’ rapid that is perfect for those looking for adventure in the Bali outback, with moderate difficulty and various natural and cultural highlights along its 14km course. It is a great way for families and friends to spend a day out on inflatable rafts carrying up to four, and to experience a different side of Bali. This course lets you immerse yourself in the green valley surroundings of Rendang village with fresh mountain air, occasional sightings of wild exotic birds and pure excitement. The river is a 30 minutes ride from Sidemen located amongst a hilly region in the Karangasem regency. The name of the valley and river, Telaga Waja, means ‘steel pond’ in Balinese, owing to the once steady flow of red-hot lava resembling molten steel from the past eruption of Mount Agung. The name aptly fits the current day rafting, as Telaga Waja is indeed Bali’s most challenging river course. The solidified volcanic emission transformed into an assortment of magnificent boulders now scattered over its paddies and riverbeds.
The rafting course of 15 km long that stretches along Telaga Waja River will break into the wilderness of free nature between gorgeous foothills and beautiful plantations right from the put-in to the pull-out point with a considerable numbers of eddy’s, little jumps, swirl and other exciting challenges. It is operated by most experienced professionals that will happily assist you with a briefing for technical tips in ahead and accompany you onboard from the lets-go, through some adrenalin-pumping splash, until it finishes. The course with the rapid level of scale 3 – 4 is absolutely safe and enjoyable. After 2 and half hours of the fun water adventure, you will be served with nice buffet food and refreshing drink for your lunch. Only kids above 9 years old is allowed to join the activities for safety concerns.

From a historical point of view the production of brocaded fabrics with ornamental wefts of gold and silver was for centuries the exclusive preserve of the higher castes. Centers of songket production are still to be found in the aristocratic and brahmanical neighborhoods of Karangasem.
